Abstract

As a part of stereotyping process for Korean system thought, this paper is written to seek and identify its archetype and characteristics. “Pungryu Do” (風流道), a religious object in Korean history, started to emerge with Dangun, the legendary founding father of Gojoseon and in Silla Dynasty, it increased its impact through an organization called Hwarang (花郞, Silla chivalry). Its influence faded afterwards due to prevalence of Buddhism and Confucianism and since late 19th century, it has seen the light yet again with ethnic religion in a modern form. It is the reason why this study regards the hypostasis of indigenous Korean thought as important which is understood by the modern ethnic religion. Korean ethnic religion in modern times is mostly concluded with Dangun thought. It features indigenous ethnic thought as its root. Belief in Dangun – Dangun thought is ‘home of Korean thought.’ Rationality, warmth and Mystique (靈驗性) lie under Korean thought. Characteristics of Korean thought have been derived from them.
