권근(權近) 『대학』 도설(圖說)의 구조적 특징과 그 학술사적 의의

Abstract

The Easy Illustration on the Great Learning (大學指掌之圖) by Kwon Geun (權近) is a graphical illustration that depicts the whole flow of the Great Learning (大學) in a single illustration, and registers the knowledge required in the process of studying the Great Learning in the form of a question and answer. The purpose of this paper is to clarify the academic characteristics of this illustration by analyzing the process of the its schematization and, through the comparison with the Illustration on the Great Learning (大學圖) by Zhuzi (朱子) and Jeong Bok-sim (程復心), find out the value that makes its distinction. Kwon Geun employed Zhuzi's Daxuezhangju (大學章句) as the standard for schematic design to reveal the essence of Zhuzi's study of the Great Learning in a single illustration, by visualizing the overall scale of the study of the Great Learning and the complex relationship between the studies. In the course of this schematization, he not only completed the optimized schematic design of Daxuezhangju, but also presented the standard of understanding of the Great Learning according to the doctrines of Zhuzi, while faithfully reflecting the key concept of Daxuezhangju and Zhuzi's theory.
