경전을 이해하고 해석하는 방법으로써 圖說을 사용한 것은 한국 유학의 일반적 특징으로 간주되고 있으며 도설을 남기지 않은 학자들이 거의 없을 정도이다. 따라서 도설을 이용하여 경전을 해석한 주석들을 경전별로 정리해봄으로써 한국의 경전 해석의 일반적인 경향성을 파악할 수 있을 것이다. 이러한 관점에서 이 논문의 목적은 중용 관련 도설들을 주제별로 나누어 분석하고, 그 결과로 나타나는 특성을 살펴보는 것이다.韓國經學資料集成에 수록된 24명 학자들의 70여개의 ‘중용도설’의 중심 주제는 크게 3가지로 볼 수 있다. 첫째, 다양한 분절을 통하여 중용 전체의 체계와 요지를 파악하는 것이다. 둘째, 중용 1장16장20장 등 특정 장의 체계와 요지를 파악하는 것이다. 셋째, 人心道心이나 ‘人物性同異論’등에 관한 설명을 하는 것이다.‘중용도설’을 주제별로 분류하여 살펴 본 결과 ‘중용도설’의 특성을 크게 3가지로 나누어 볼 수 있다. 첫째, 중용 전체를 체계적이고 종합적으로 이해하려는 도설들이 대부분을 차지하고 있다는 점이다. 둘째, 중용의 체계와 요지를 일목요연하게 나타내어 평소에 누누이 살펴서 ‘日用事物之間’에 실천을 하기 위한 목적으로 도설이 사용되고 있다는 점이다. 셋째, 주희의 중용 이해를 바탕으로 더욱 치밀하고 상세하게 해석하여 주희의 해석을 보완하고 있다는 점이다.
Abstract
The Main Subject and Characteristic of the Illustration on the Doctrine of the Mean in Korea / Kim, You-Gon The Main Subject and Characteristic of the Illustration on the Doctrine of the Mean in Korea / Kim, You-Gon The use of the illustration as the way to comprehend and interpret the Confucian scripture is regarded as the general characteristic of Korean Confucianism. Therefore, I think it is possible to grasp the universal tendency of interpreting Confucian scripture in Korea by researching the materials on interpreting it through the illustration. From this point of view, the purpose of this paper is to find the main subject and characteristic of the illustration on the Doctrine of the Mean in Korea. There are three main subjects in the illustration on the Doctrine of the Mean included in the Compilation of the Study of Korean Classics. First, it is to find the system and point of the Doctrine of the Mean by dividing it into several parts. Second, it is to catch the format and substance of special chapters like chapter 1, chapter 16, and chapter 20. Third, it is to explain the specific subject matters like the human mind and moral mind and the identity and difference between humans and things in the nature. There are three characteristics in the illustration on the Doctrine of the Mean. First, most illustrations try to understand the Doctrine of the Mean systematically and comprehensively. Second, they are used to realize the main ideas of it in real life by examining them over and over again. Third, they complement the interpreting the Doctrine of the Mean of Chu-tzu more closely and minutely.
