Abstract

In this paper, we explored the situation of Chinese modern intellectuals' perception of the relationship between science and ethics, and explored the front page of China's modern science and ethics by reviewing the arguments that were raised around this issue in the debate of science and outlook on life in the 5.4 period. In particular, the 5.4 period scientific and life-view debate surrounds the question of "can we solve life's problems by scientific method?" which can generally be settled into three positions, given the circumstances and arguments of the debate. First, scientific methods cannot be applied to ethical subjects. Second, scientific methods can be applied to ethical subjects. Third, some parts of the subject of ethics can apply the science method. One reason why the discussion of the relationship between ethics and science in China's modern period mainly revolved around the applicability of science to the body of ethics is the criticism of the traditional ethics of Westerners and scientificists. While the discussions in the West were mainly focused on how to put science under the control of ethics, in China's case, the focus on how to put ethics under the control of science is to say that science was viewed as a value system that could replace traditional ethics.
