방과 후 스포츠활동 참여가 남자 중학생들의 공격성에 미치는 영향

초록

[서론] 이 연구는 방과 후 스포츠활동이 학교폭력의 근원인 공격성에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 그리고 청소년들의 정체성 발달과 관련하여 어떠한 교육적 가치가 부여될 수 있는지를 살펴보고자 하였다. [방법] 2012년 9월부터 12월까지 방과 후 스포츠활동에 참여한 실험집단 171명과 참여하지 않은 통제집단 195명의 남자 중학생들을 연구대상자로 선정하였다. 방과 후 스포츠활동 참여 학생들은 축구, 농구, 야구, 테니스 배드민턴 등 7개 종목에서 한 학기 동안 20회 이상 40시간 이상 스포츠활동을 하였다. 방과 후 스포츠활동이 공격성에 미치는 영향을 조사하기 위하여 탐색적 요인분석과 신뢰도 분석을 통해 적합성을 확인한 공격성 측정 설문지를 통해 사전, 사후조사를 실시하였다. 자기평가기입법을 통해 응답된 자료들의 분석을 위해 SPSS 18.0을 사용한 t-test가 실시되었다. [결과] 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 방과 후 스포츠활동에 참여한 남자 중학생들의 공격성은 사전․사후 검사결과 통계적으로 유의한 수준으로 감소했는데, 하위요인들 중 적대감이 유의한 차이를 보였다. 둘째, 방과 후 스포츠활동의 공격성 감소효과는 실험집단과 통제집단 간 의미 있는 차이를 보였는데, 의심과 적대감요인에서 두 집단 간 유의한 차이를 보였다. [결론] 본 연구에서는 스포츠의 정화효과를 지지하는 결과가 나타났으나, 이와 관련한 연구의 결과들은 상충되는 경우가 많다. 이러한 현상은 다음의 두 가지 원인 때문인 것으로 사료된다. 첫째, 청소년들의 공격성 수준에 영향을 미칠 수 있는 요인들(예: 일상의 스트레스, 또래 관계, 학업 성적 등)이 연구에서 충분히 통제되지 못한 연구방법론상의 문제가 있다. 둘째, 스포츠의 정화효과를 사회 안정이라는 장기적 측면에서 이해하기 보다는 단기간적 측면에서 이해하려는 경향이 결과 불일치성의 또 따른 요인인 것으로 사료된다.

Abstract

[INTRODUCTION] The purposes of this study were to examine the effects of participation in after-school sport activity on aggressive attitude of male middle school students and to explore its educational value in the identity development of juveniles. [METHOD] For this study, a total 336 students were recruited and divided into two groups(experimental group 171, control group 195). The students in the experimental group participated in 7 different events(eg, soccer, basketball, baseball, tennis, badminton ect.) for three months. They responded to the Hostility Scale that was verified through exploratory factor analysis. Self-administration method was used for the response of the Scale. For the analysis of the collected data, t-test was performed by SPSS 18.0. [RESULT] The results of this study were as follows: First, after-school sport activity resulted in the decrease of aggression's level, and statistically significant difference was reported in the resentment as one of the sub-factors. Second, the effects of after-school sport activity on reducing aggression were significantly different in two groups, and this difference resulted from two sub-factors such as suspicion and resentment. [CONCLUSION] The results of this study support the catharsis effect of sport activity, while previous studies contradicted to the results of this study in part. The current study suggests that in the future research various variables(eg. stress in daily lives, peer relationships, academic achievement etc.) that can influence on the aggression should be considered. Furthermore, a new standpoint of the catharsis effect of sport activity is required.
