칼빈과 차일즈 성경해석의 개혁주의생명신학을 위한 시사점

개혁주의 성경해석원리를 구성하는데 가장 크게 기여한 칼빈 (Calvin)의 성서해석에서 성경의 유일성 원리는 성경 외의 다른 경전을 배제하는 경계 설정만이 아니라 신자의 삶에서 성경이 갖 는 근원적이고 중심적인 역할을 서하는 원리이기도 하다. 성경 의 자증성 원리는 일차적으로 성경이 신앙의 실천에 필요한 충분 한 기초를 제공한다는 믿음에 기초한 것으로, 불명료해보이는 성 경구절을 해석하기 위한 최상의 자원이, 보다 명료한 다른 성경 구절에 내재되어 있음을 뜻한다. 개혁주의생명신학은 교리의 거 시적 서에서만이 아니라 성경해석의 방법에서도 칼빈을 비 롯한 개혁주의를 실질적이고 구체적으로 계승 발전시켜야 한다. 개혁주의생명신학의 성경해석학에 기여할 수 있는 또 하나의 해석방법은 차일즈(B. Childs)가 대표하는 정경비평이다. 차일즈 는 성경의 해석자가 본문의 최종형태를 전승해 온 신앙공동체의 해석학을 존중하고 역사적 해석공동체의 일원으로서의 자신의 위치를 의식하면서 본문과의 대화를 지속할 것을 제시한다. 칼빈 과 차일즈의 성서해석은 16세기와 20세기라는 성서해석사의 중 대한 전환기에서 출현한 뜻깊은 작업들로서, 포스트 크리스텐덤 을 표방하는 21세기를 주유하는 개혁주의생명신학이 수용하고 응용할 소중한 자원이다, “개혁교회는 항상 개혁되어야 한다”는 고백대로, 신학의 기초를 놓는 성경해석 역시 늘 자신의 근원을 재확인하고 돌아갈 때 정로를 걸어갈 수 있다.
Abstract
The principles sola scriptura (Scripture alone) and scriptura sui ipsius interpres (Scripture interprets itself) take special place in Calvin’s biblical interpretation. They underline the central role the Bible plays in the lives of the believers, and uphold a cardi- nal principle of sensible biblical interpretation, namely that ob- scure passages in the Bible need to be interpreted in the light of plain and clear passages. Reformed Life Theology needs to inherit and advance the fruit of Calvin’s works not only in the sweeping doctrinal matters but also in the praxis of biblical interpretation. Another hermeneutic legacy useful for Reformed Life Theology is Brevard Childs’ canonical criticism which helps the interpreter respect the hermeneutic of the faith communities and function as an active practitioner of theology. Hermeneutical works of Calvin and Childs are valuable resource for the Reformed Life Theology in navigating the 21st century, a self professedly post-Christendom era. Biblical interpretation can and will proceed in the right direction when it reaffirms and hearkens back to its sources: Ad Fontes.
