Abstract
From the perspective of millennials, the job structure in Korea is far from fair distribution of income. Competition is more fierce than in the past because the global economy is in a long-term recession, and millennials have worse job quality and income than their parents. Therefore, ‘fairness’ is the most important value for millennials, and millennials look at society and jobs from the perspective of ‘fairness’. When viewed as ‘fairness’, our society incorrectly prescribes the distribution of income, that is, ‘the price for work’, and incorrectly presents the ‘responsibility for the consideration’. Also, most of the millennials think that ties to success in our society. Again, it can be seen that the millennials attach importance to ‘fairness’ in getting a job. Comparing the traditional view of job preference with that of the millennials, as in the Confucian tradition, the millennials overwhelmingly preferred white color or professional jobs. However, contrary to the traditional point of view, commerce was the next preferred, and agriculture and industry, which involves manual labor, were not preferred by the millennials. For millennials, jobs are first and foremost a means of making money. However, at a high rate, they felt that they needed a job for self-realization, and thought that more leisure was needed for self-realization compared to the previous generation. The existing Confucian thoughts are not yet ready to understand the thinking of the millennials. They haven't been able to present a realistic way to alleviate their pain. Confucianism should be more active in solving the problem of ‘fairness’ that millennials are concerned about. Confucianism must be more active in overcoming the moral dilemma in the workplace. In particular, it seems urgently necessary to research and modernize the ethical virtues of vocations required of seonbi(officials) and apply them to various occupations.
