이 글은 다문화교육의 인간관계론적 접근에서 나타나는 쟁점을 살펴보고, 다문화교육의 방향을 제시하였다. 이를 위해 이 글은 다문화교육의 인간관계론적 접근의 본질이 시민 양성에 있다는 점을 확인하고, 주요 학자들의 논지 속에서 4가지 쟁점을 구분하며, 쟁점에 관한 세부 논의를 통해 교육의 방향을 다음처럼 제시하였다. 첫째, 자아존중감 형성이 우선이며, 이어서 재미감, 소속감, 자신감, 신뢰감, 존재감의 욕구가 추구되어야 한다. 둘째, 일상에서의 다문화 수용성과 다문화 감수성이 높아져야 하며, 일상에서 문화가 정치적·사회적으로 동원되고 자의적으로 해석되지 않도록 해야 한다. 셋째, 긍정적인 사회적 상호의존론을 교육 자원으로 활용하여 개인은 사회적 배려·존중의 역량을 키워야 하며, 집단은 구성원간 갈등을 협력적으로 조정하는 방법을 습득해야 한다. 넷째, 모두가 다문화시민으로서의 행위자(actors)라는 점에서 이주민을 보는 시선은 동료시민적 관점으로 변화되어야 한다. 이러한 점에서 다문화교육의 인간관계론적 접근은 개인간 상호작용을 위한 교육의 차원을 넘어 문화성, 문화간 대화, 사회통합성 등의 쟁점과 연결지으며 다문화시민교육의 역할을 더욱 강화해야 한다.
Abstract
This study examines the issues of the human relations approach in multicultural education and suggests the direction of multicultural education. For this, confirming that the essence of the human relations approach of multicultural education lies in nurturing citizens, this article classifies the four issues in the argument of major scholars and presents the education direction of the four issues as follows. First, the formation of self-esteem is the most important, followed by the desire for fun, a sense of belonging, confidence, trust, and presence. Second, multicultural acceptability and multicultural sensitivity in daily life should be raised, and culture should not be utilized politically or socially and not be interpreted subjectively. Third, by using the positive social interdependence theory as an educational resource, individuals should develop the capacity for social consideration and respect, and the group should learn how to cooperatively reconcile conflicts among members. Fourth, in the sense that all are actors as multicultural citizens, we should change the perspective to view migrants as a fellow-citizen perspective. From this point of view, the human relations approach in multicultural education should go beyond the education level of interpersonal interaction and should strengthen the role of multicultural civic education by associating it with issues such as cultural characteristics, intercultural dialogue, and social cohesion.
