시중은행과 지방은행의 효율성·생산성 : 방향거리함수를 중심으로

초록

기존 다수의 연구들과는 달리 본 연구에서는 은행의 정상산출물뿐 아니라 유해산출물까 포함하여 분석하였다. 분석기간은 1994년부터 2006년까지 13년간이며, 분석대상은 국내 시중은행과 지방은행이다. 본 연구에서는 기존 대부분의 연구들과는 달리 은행의 정상산출물뿐 아니라 유해산출물까지 고려하여 분석하였다. 또한 서로 다른 4개의 방향거리함수를 이용해 Malmquist-Luenberger 생산성 변화지수를 추정한 다음 이를 기술효율변화와 기술발전변화 부분으로 분해하였다. 분석을 통해 정상산출물만을 고려한 모형과 유해산출물까지 고려한 모형 모두 시중은행에 비해 지방은행의 효율성이 낮게 측정되어 두 은행 그룹 간에는 상당한 효율성 격차가 존재함을 확인하였다. 나아가 본 연구는 효율성 값을 종속변수로 두고 효율성 결정요인에 대한 분석을 실시하였으며, 그 결과 관리자비중, 총자산, 위험관리비효율 등의 변수들이 은행의 효율성을 설명하는 중요한 요소들임을 확인하였다.

Abstract

The main purpose of this paper is to investigate the efficiency and productivity of nation-wide/local commercial banks in Korea. The data period is from 1991 to 2006. Two types of output-oriented directional distance function methods were employed to estimate the efficiency and Malmquist-Luenberger productivity of two bank groups; desirability-adjusted and undesirability-adjusted directional distance function approaches. We found the total average efficiency and productivity paths of two bank groups were fairly different. In order to regress the determinants of the efficiency, we used normal tobit model and random-effects panel-tobit model. We found some significant factors which affect the efficiency of nation-wide/local commercial banks.
