본 논문은 2000년부터 2006년까지 국내소재은행을 대형, 외국계, 지방은행군으로 나누어 DEA와 Malmquist 생산성지수를 이용하여 생산효율성을 비교·분석하였다. 전반적으로 분석대상은행의 기술효율성(TE)과 비용효율성(CE)은 향상되었지만 규모효율성과 배분효율성은 상대적으로 큰 진전을 나타내지 않았다. 특히 기술효율성과 비용효율성에 있어서 외국계은행들이 국내 대형은행과 지방은행들의 효율성을 능가한 결과는 매우 인상적이었다. 투입변수로는 인건비, 부채, 및 고정자산을, 산출변수로는 이자발생자산, 비이자수익, 그리고 법인세 및 특별항목전 당기순이익으로 하였다. 생산성지수를 기술적변화와 효율성변화로 나누어 분석한 결과 두 변화가 골고루 향상되었지만 기술변화가 미세하나마 우위를 나타내었다.
Abstract
This paper investigates the efficiency and productivity in a sample of Korean commercial banks over the period 2000－2006. We used Data Envelopment Analysis to evaluate the efficiency and Malmquist productivity index to measure the productivity change. The sample was divided into three groups：major banks group, foreign－owned banks group, and regional banks group. Empirical results indicate the foreign－owned banks group showed a superior efficiency improvement in producing banking services and profit, while the domestic major banks and regional banks have experienced a little change in the efficiency. Whereas the main efficiency was due to cost efficiency (CE) and technical efficiency (TE) rather than scale efficiency (SE) and allocative efficiency (AE), Malmquist productivity indices were caused by technical change. In general, foreign－owned banks are more efficient than major banks and smaller banks.
