Abstract

In a context where there is increasing interest in personalized education support for individual students, this study designed and developed science project lesson materials aimed at providing tailored support to upper elementary (grades 5-6) and middle school 1st-grade students. The study also explored the process of field application and subsequent improvements. Specifically, the research sought to investigate the potential for continuous research and development through the design, development, and refinement of instructional materials utilizing maker technologies. To this end, the researchers first reviewed the validity of a catapult game/rocket kit and related teaching–learning programs developed for the target students. Second, they examined the field application and improvement processes of the designed and developed catapult kit and game-based programs. Finally, the researchers reviewed the direct production process of the catapult kits using maker technologies, and applied considerations and improvements for classroom use, including necessary precautions and operational suggestions. Based on the findings, the study discussed the development and validation of maker kits and game-based instructional materials for support students, the differentiation achieved by using history and science themes in creating lesson materials, the value of cases where maker technologies were applied for instructional material development and in collaborative efforts between teachers and experts, as well as the issues related to the production and practical use of kits utilizing various maker tools such as 3D printers and laser cutters.
