Abstract

The aim of our research is to argue for the importance of the emotional approach in creativity and gifted education. This essay identifies the emotional elements in evolutionary, cognitive, and neuro-scientific theories and emphasizes the emotional-centered approach in refining the concept of giftedness. Three theories within cognitive science studies are selected for our research; the Imprinted Brain theory, Cerebral Hemispheric model, and the Integrated Model of Human Abilities. The results of these theories are compared and analysed with the method of constructive reduction, through which it was intended to preserve the independent nature of diverse studies and present complementary explanations. Our study shows that the three theories commonly emphasize emotional elements in thinking, which have a decisive influence on creative thinking and problem-solving. Our study will also identify elements of interaction between emotional-centered thinking and rational-centered thinking. This implies that the newer emotional-centered approach is important along with the current rational-centered approach in terms of educating gifted students.
