한일 문화 교류 확대와 부산지역 활성화― ‘축제’를 매개로 한 지역사회 발전 ―

Abstract

The relationship between Korea and Japan is complex and delicate. Since the normalization of diplomatic relations in 1965, economic and cultural ties have strengthened, but political conflicts have occurred frequently. At one point, the relationship reached its lowest point, however, relations between the governments of both countries have recently started to improve. Particularly among the younger generation, there is a trend to viewing Japan by distinguishing political issues from cultural aspects, resulting in a significant shift in perceptions of Japan. The most visible area where this improvement in Korea-Japan relations is evident is in tourism. Despite being Korea’s second-largest city, Busan ranks low on national indicators that reflect its status, and tourism is mainly concentrated in the capital region, including Seoul. Therefore, this study examines various examples and initiatives of regional revitalization in Japan and analyzes ways to revitalize the Busan area through the tourism industry, focusing particularly on festivals.
