Abstract

This study examined the impact of digital platform adoption on the performance of small-scale enterprises in the service sector. Using panel data from the Statistical Business Register of Statistics Korea for the period 2019-2021, we applied a difference-in-differences model to identify the causal effect of digital platform adoption. The results show that platform adoption leads to a 28.6% average increase in sales. However, this effect is significantly smaller for business owners aged 40 and above, and for relatively larger enterprises. This indicates that younger entrepreneurs and smaller firms derive greater benefits from digital platforms. Sales gains are broadly consistent across the service sub-industries. Our findings highlight the potential of digital platforms to enhance business performance and foster growth among microenterprises in the service sector.
