Abstract
This study aims to delve into the representations of the death or loss and their meanings in two Korean American dramas, Aubergine and Cleveland Raining. As death is universal phenomenon but the paths of life leading the death are different depending on ethnic and cultural features, this study pays attention to the following three points; first is how Korean Americans’ deaths or losses are being represented in those dramas; second is how they are differentiated from western definition of death; and finally whether this approach could be called Korean American Diasporic Thanatology. For this purpose, two topics are discussed; one is what are the differences of ‘good death’ between in western hospice care and in Korean traditional culture; the other is how two Korean American dramas appropriate Korean traditional rituals of death.
