Abstract

The result of having compared and analysed the contents of jeongjae in euigwe and holgi to clarify the reliability of pogurak mudo, shows that the contents of mudo was suggested on the basis of literature. It was found that both mudo and holgi are related to poguhee, and that items related include the formation of dancing, the number of dancers, the locations of bonghwa and bongpil, movements of dancing, their details, progression of the right and the left formations, etc. In particular, when it comes to the movements of dancing, such nonggumu movements as were hard to be understood in holi were identified in mudo. Holgi records by implication all the contents related to dancing with jeongjae terms, and so the practical dance movements and progression cannot be clarified merely with the combination of terms. On the other hand, it seems that the concrete description of realistic circumstances in mudo was based on a carefully thought-out plan to make its depth contents known to posterity beyond the explanation of roles simply with pictures. Holgi and mudo may be said to play a mutually complementary role in their fragmentary records. It was found that the records of mudo in euigwe consist of realistic and concrete contents, not of simply abstract contents as in a fresco, and that they contain in themselves efficient and utilitarian values in performing jeongjae in the future. The reason why many contents were painted in mudo may be ascribed to the intention to suggest a variety of dance movements in order to transmit the contents of important poguhee in pogurak. The practical movements in mudo seem not to be able to be caught clearly but their detailed contents are expected to be analogized if they are carefully compared and reviewed again from the starting point of the pogurak that is now being transmitted.
