Phonological Changes in Goryeomal of the Russian Far East and Central Asia

.So, Shin-ae (2025), “Phonological Changes in Goryeomal of the Russian Far East and Central Asia,” Language and Information Society 55. This paper discusses the phonological changes in Goryeomal, the variety of Korean spoken in the Russian Far East and Central Asia. By comparing Goryeomal spoken in the Russian Far East in the early 20th century with that spoken in Central Asia in the early 21st century, this study aims to reveal patterns of phonological change that have occurred over the past century. An examination of the phonological changes caused by internal factors within Goryeomal indicates that the variety spoken in the early 20th century underwent significant changes over the past century. Furthermore, these changes varied considerably depending on individual speakers. In addition, the Goryeomal spoken in Central Asia in the early 21st century exhibits phonological changes influenced by contact with the Russian language.
