초록

Korean prefixes mainly derivationally change the meaning of the root that follows them, but some prefixes, like suffixes, change the part of speech of the root. These prefixes are called governing prefixes. There has been much research on governing prefixes. In previous studies on governing prefixes, different researchers defined the governing function differently; Thus, this study examines the governing prefixes in Korean. First, this paper examines various considerations for establishing Korean governing prefixes, including the definition of the governing function, the difference between Sino-Korean prefixes and native Korean prefixes, the problem of distinguishing Korean verbs and adjectives, morphemes that cause change, and the meaning of morphemes, and then sets criteria for establishing Korean governing prefixes based on these considerations, and uses these criteria to see whether any of the native Korean prefixes or Sino-Korean prefixes can be established as governing prefixes.
