Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine the impact of elite Judo players' L-carnitine injection on the improvement of their athletic performances to clarify L-carnitine's effect as a safe ergogenic acid and to provide necessary empirical data on athletic performances and ideal body constituents. For this study, a total of 34 subjects were examined in two different groups: athletics with carnitine injections (n=17) and controlled athletics (n=17). The following summarizes the findings of this study. Using SPSS/PC 15.0 program, it calculated measurement items, mean and standard deviation. It conducted two-way (2RG x 3RM) ANOVA to verify body composition by groups and treatment periods in each measurement item, cardiorespiratory capability and difference between lactic acid. It also carried out three-way mixed (2RG × 3RM × 3RM) ANOVA to inspect blood lipid by treatment period and blood sampling time in each group. It used contrast test to study the difference by treatment period and blood sampling time. First, there were significant treatment period-group interaction effects in maximum ventilation capacity and maximum oxygen intake in aerobic ability and it was statistically significantly increased by treatment period. Second, in blood lipid, there was significant difference between treatment period and groups in triglyceride and free fatty acid. There was also significant difference between blood sampling time and groups in triglyceride and free fatty acid. Third, in the ratio of lactic acid production of fatigue substance, there was no interaction effect during treatment and no statistically significantly difference in the major effect by treatment period. However, in the ratio of lactic acid recovery, it was a little bit increased in the carnitine-intake group and it was statistically significantly increased by treatment period.
