秋史의 「送紫霞入燕十首幷序」攷 -秋史의 近世文學史的 位相 定立을 위하여-

Abstract

The Northern School(北學)’s Silsagusihak, the Study of Empiricism and Scholarly Precedent, had a great impact on the arts and science of the late Chosun Dynasty during the 17th and 18th centuries. Based on the presupposition that the Northern Learning had truly provided an occasion to enrich incompleteness of the modern history of literature, or the history of culture, the current paper attempts to examine the thoughts on arts and learning of Chusa (秋史), who led the new thoughts of the times and a paradigm of new consciousness by analyzing the ‘Sending Jaha off to the Yan (燕) State, Ten Poems.’ The motivation for his writing the poems was to encourage meeting with Weng Fanggang (翁方綱), a leading figure in the epigraphy, the methodology of historical researches as well as the study of Chinese classics, who also had good discerning eyes with abundant data and extensive knowledge about poetry, calligraphy and paintings. It was also aimed at informing Jaha for his dialogue with Weng Fanggang when he met with the latter. The ten poems consistof three phases: introduction, body and conclusion. The introduction part, the first two poems, starts with two poetic concepts: Chusa’s visiting to the Yan State and his feelings for Weng. The next eight poems, the body of the poetry, describes the following subjects respectively: Weng’s profound knowledge and works based on historical researches (2) his basic calligraphy style, a seal character style, and the right way of brush writing (3) the history of the tablet of his library, Sigyeongheon (詩境軒) and various classic data in the fourth and the fifth one; reverence for Weng based on Dongpa’s figure (東坡像) and a longing for Weng in the sixth and the seventh one; a pleasant situation that Weng’s disciples congratulates Weng on his birthday in the eighth one; an explanation of Weng’s realistic poems and poetics in the ninth one. Lastly, the tenth poem concludes with sad feelings, depicting the poet’s sad feelingsthat precious stone monuments and lots of calligraphy works of the Tang Dynasty and portraits of numerous wise men and masters and rare relics of the Han Dynasty would fade away someday.
