A Foundational Analysis for Regular Freighter Lane Recommendations: A Case Study of The Daegu-Gyeongbuk Integrated Airport

Abstract
Several new airport projects, including the Daegu-Gyeongbuk Integrated Airport, are under review or development in Korea. Of the country's 15 commercial airports, only four (ICN, GMP, PUS, and CJU) are currently profitable. This paper provides a foundational analysis of potential regular freighter service lanes for the Daegu-Gyeongbuk Integrated Airport to support its long-term sustainability. By analyzing six years of air export data from Korea, with a focus on the Daegu-Gyeongbuk Region and the Seoul Metropolitan Area, Shanghai Pudong (PVG) emerges as the top recommendation, followed by Hong Kong (HKG), Hanoi (HAN), Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW), and Doha (DOH). The study highlights the unique characteristics of the Daegu Gyeongbuk region and offers practical insights for regional airports aiming to establish regular freighter services.
