Abstract

This study is carried out to contribute to a foundation for exploring a new socio-cultural recognition for martial arts based on humanistic approaches including literature, history and philosophy. The research outcomes are as follows. First, it is important to build a humanistic foundation for martial arts, professionals and scholars should attempt to develop martial arts skills, systematic researches, and humanistic approaches that encompass the humanities, philosophy, and history. Second, for a literary humanistic direction of martial arts, it is necessary to establish martial arts as a new cultural product, the practice should be more creatively developed through the convergence of philosophy, storytelling, culture, and skill. Third, for a historical humanistic direction of martial arts, it is necessary to explain the importance of literature and martial arts to young people based on the history of martial arts masters. Fourth, for a philosophical direction of martial arts, martial artiest should build the capacity of harmony by ingraining themselves in the philosophy of mutual growth and prosperity. This development will serve as momentum to exhibit the values of martial arts not only as a medium of mutual growth and prosperity but also as a new culture. In conclusion, humanistic approach for martial arts can contribute to the formation of a new recognition paradigm as well as the development of the balanced martial arts based on culture, history and philosophy.
