홍산문화(紅山文化) 각종 옥벽(玉璧)의 상징적 의미와 샤먼의 위계(位階)
A Study on the Symbolic meaning of many kinds of Yubi(玉璧)s and the Hierarchical Order of Shaman in Hongshan Culture

홍산문화에서는 (1) 원형옥벽(圓形玉璧), (2) 방형옥벽(方形玉璧) 혹은 방원형옥벽(方圓形玉璧), (3) 쌍련옥벽(雙連玉璧), (4) 삼련옥벽(三連玉璧) 등 다양한 형태의 옥벽이 최초로 발견된다. 논의를 요약하면 아래와 같다. 첫째, 홍산문화 시기에는 이미 원(圓)=천(天), 방(方)=지(地), 각(角)=인(人)을 각각 천상세계(天上世界), 지하세계(=地下世界), 인간세계(人间世界)에 비유하는 관념체계가 있었다. 이것은 홍산문화 우하량 유적의 원형천단(圓形天檀), 방형지단(方形地檀), 각형여신묘(角形女神廟)를 통해서 알 수 있다. 둘째, (1) 원형옥벽은 천상세계의 천신과 교통할 수 있는 ‘하급샤먼 중 상층 샤먼’이 패용하던 ‘통천의기(通天儀器) = 통천신의기(通天神儀器)’로 볼 수 있으며, (2) 각형옥벽은 각 씨족/부족의 조상신과 교통할 수 있는 ‘하급샤먼 중 중간층 샤먼’이 패용하던 ‘통인의기(通人儀器) = 통인신의기(通人神儀器) = 통조신의기(通祖神儀器)’라고 볼 수 있으며, (3) 방형옥벽/방원형옥벽은 지하세계의 지신이나 죽은 자의 영혼과 교통할 수 있는 ’하급 샤먼 중 하층 샤먼‘이 패용하던 ‘통지의기(通地儀器) = 통지신의기(通地神儀器) = 통사자의의(通死者儀器)’로 볼 수 있다. 셋째, 쌍련옥벽의 외형은 ‘각형옥벽(위쪽)’과 ‘원형옥벽(아래쪽)’이 아래위로 연결된 형태로, 천상세계의 천신이나 인간세계에 공존하는 조상신과 모두 교통할 수 있는 ‘중급 샤먼’이 패용하던 ‘통천인의기(通天人儀器) = 통천신인신의기(通天神人神儀器) = 통천신조신의기(通天神祖神儀器)’라고 볼 수 있다. 넷째, 삼련옥벽의 외형은 ‘각형옥벽(위쪽) + 방형옥벽(가운데) + 원형옥벽(아래쪽)’이 아래위로 연결된 형태다. 이는 천상세계의 천신, 지하세계의 지신이나 죽은자의 영혼, 인간세계와 공존하는 조상신 등과 모두 교통할 수 있는 ‘최상급 샤먼’이 패용하던 ‘통천지인의기(通天地人儀器) = 통천신지신인신의기(通天神地神人神儀器) = 통천신지신조신의기(通天神地神祖神儀器)’라고 볼 수 있다. 다섯째, 홍산문화 시기의 샤먼들은 패용하던 옥벽을 통해 위계를 나타냈을 것으로 본다. 위계가 낮은 옥벽부터 위계가 높은 옥벽을 순서대로 제시하면, ‘방형옥벽/방원형옥벽 (下級 下) → 각형옥벽(下級 中) → 원형옥벽(下級 上) → 쌍련옥벽(中級) → 삼련옥벽(最上級)’의 순이 된다. 따라서 홍산문화 시기의 샤먼들은 최소한 3등급, 최대 5등급의 샤먼들이 존재하였을 것으로 본다.
Abstract
Three are many kinds of Yubi(玉璧)s in Neolithic era Hongshan Culture(4500- 3000 B.C.). They are called, (1) Circular Yubi, (2) Square Yubi, (3) Triangular Yubi, (4) Double Yubi, (5) and Triple Yubi. This paper studies the Symbolic meaning of many kinds of Yubi(玉璧)s and the Hierarchical Order of Shaman in Hongshan Culture. The result was as follows. First, three was a concept of ‘Heaven(○)-Earth(□)-Human(△)’ in Hongshan Culture. Second, (1) Circular Yubi(○) would have been used in the ritual for the gods of heaven, (2) Square Yubi(□) would have been used in the ritual for the gods of earth and the dead man’s spirit, (3) Triangular Yubi(△) would have been used in the ritual for the ancestors god in order to communicate with the spiritual world by lower level shaman. Third, Doubie Yubi(○+△) would have been used by middle level shaman. He could have been communicate with (1) the gods of heaven (2) and the ancestors god all. Forth, Triple Yubi (○+□+△) would have been used by high level shaman. He could have been communicate with (1) the gods of heaven, (2) the god of the earth and the dead man’s spirit (3) and the ancestors god all. Finally, three was a hierarchy in 3-5 levels of Shaman in Hongshan Culture. I seen that there was at least three levels of five levels of Shaman hierarchy in Hongsan culture.
