태권도는 체육의 한 종목으로 경기 기술 및 규칙, 태권도 교습법 등에 관해 연구되었다. 하지만 2016년 ‘전북 겨루기 태권도’가 전북 무형유산으로 지정되며, 태권도를 무형유산 혹은 문화유산과 같은 국가유산, 기록물인 기록유산으로서 가치를 연구하는 계기가 되었다. 이처럼 체육학뿐만 아니라 다양한 학제 간 연구를 위해서는 산재한 다양한 재질 및 형태의 태권도문화자원을 체계적·전문적으로 수집 및 정리해야 한다. 즉, 태권도문화자원은 경기 성과물, 경기 용품, 사진 및 영상 등과 같은 문화유산으로서 특성뿐만 아니라 인물사, 변화된 경기 기술과 규칙 등과 같이 무형유산적 특성도 지닌 복합적인 요소를 가지고 있다. 이에 따라 태권도학뿐만 아니라 자료를 전문적으로 관리할 수 있는 숙련된 전문인력을 중심으로 관리되어야만 체육학뿐만 아니라 문화재학·박물관학·기록학 등 다양한 학문적 측면에서 연구할 수 있는 원천소스로서의 태권도문화자원으로 관리할 수 있기 때문이다. 이글에서는 태권도문화자원의 수집 및 생산 현황과 함께 개인과 기관을 중심으로 태권도문화자원의 관리현황을 국내 주요 태권도 단체들과 기관을 살펴보고자 한다. 그중 전 세계적으로 유일한 태권도 전문박물관을 운영하는 태권도진흥재단은 전문인력을 중심으로 수집·관리한 태권도문화자원을 이용해 디지털 아카이브를 구축한 사례와 운영 방향성을 고찰하고자 한다.
Abstract
Taekwondo, as a branch of physical education, has been studied in terms of its competition techniques, rules, and teaching methods. However, in 2016, when 'Jeonbuk Gyeorugi(Sparring) Taekwondo' was designated as an intangible cultural heritage of Jeollabuk-do, it provided an opportunity to research Taekwondo’s value as a form of national heritage, such as intangible or cultural heritage, and as archival heritage. To conduct interdisciplinary research on Taekwondo beyond physical education, it is necessary to systematically and professionally collect and organize the scattered and diverse types of Taekwondo cultural resources. In other words, Taekwondo cultural resources encompass complex elements that include not only cultural heritage characteristics such as competition achievements, sporting equipment, photographs and videos, but also intangible heritage characteristics such as biographical histories, evolved competition techniques and rules. Accordingly, these resources should be managed by skilled professionals not only in Taekwondo studies, but in specialized archival management, so that they can serve as source materials for research from various academic perspectives including physical education, cultural heritage studies, museum studies, and archival science. This paper examines the current status of collection and production of Taekwondo cultural resources, which serve as foundational materials for studying Taekwondo from an intangible heritage perspective, along with the management status centered on individuals and major domestic Taekwondo organizations and institutions. In particular, it aims to look into the case and operational direction of building a digital archive using Taekwondo cultural resources collected and managed by the Taekwondo Promotion Foundation, which operates the only specialized Taekwondo museum both domestically and internationally.
