『三國遺事』 塔象 皇龍寺丈六條의 초주 환희사와 원효

Abstract

Lama Wonhyo(元曉) who expounded in Diamond sutra was a noble man (眞骨 : ‘Jingol’ blood) at Hwangnyongsa(皇龍寺 : Hwangnyong Temple). From the fact that the discussion of Main Edifices and chief monks of many generations suddenly appeared in the article ‘A sixteen-feet-high Buddha statue of Hwangnyongsa’(皇龍寺丈六條) of Samgukyusa (三國遺事: Memorabilia of the Three Kingdoms) shows that there was reorganization of the article ‘the Wooden Stupa at Hwangnyongsa’(皇龍寺九層塔條) after the death of Lama Ilyeon(一然). the Article ‘In ten saints of the Main Edifices in the Heungryeunsa’(東京興輪寺金堂十聖條) of Samgukyusa, Lama Hwanhui(歡喜師), the first chief monk, was not mentioned while Lama Jajang(慈藏), the second chief monk, was discussed. the Ground of Joy(歡喜地) is another word for the first level of Bodhisattva(初地菩薩) and Lama Wonhyo was the only Bottisatava who reached the extraordinary level of enlightenment. The monks of the era had difficulty grasping Lama Wonhyo’s liberated mind. Lama Jajang emphasized the strict observation of the religious precepts. These two factors were presumed to be the background for Lama Wonhyo being labeled as Lama Hwanhui by the monks of his time.
