예비 중등 영어교사 교육에서 마이크로티칭의 효과 -예비 교사들의 인식을 바탕으로-

본 연구에서는 예비 중등영어교사 교육에서 미래의 영어 교사들의 교수기술을 발전시키기 위한 한 가지 방법으로 마이크로티칭의 효과에 대해 알아보고자 하였다. 마이크로티칭은 예비 교사교육 또는 현직 교사교육에서 수업능력을 향상시키기 위한 방법으로 사용 되어오고 있다. 이 방법에서는 실제 수업환경이 아닌 인위적으로 통제된 교수 상황에서 자신의 교수기술을 연습할 수 있도록 기회가 주어진다. 한 사범대학 영어교육과에 재학 중인 24명의 학생들이 이 연구에 참여한 바, 설문 조사를 통하여 다음의 몇 가지 사항들이 밝혀졌다. 우선, 마이크로티칭 전 준비 단계에서 교수내용의 선정 및 수업계획서 작성과 관련하여 지도교수와의 조별 회의가 중요하다; 교수 경험은 유익했다; 마이크로티칭 후 지도교수와의 조별 토론, 조별 비디오 자체분석, 그리고 다른 조들이 제출한 평가지를 읽는 것은 도움이 되었다; 한편, 마이크로티칭 마지막 단계의 종합적 자체 평가보고서를 작성하여 구두로 전체 학생 앞에서 낭독한 것은 별 도움이 되지 않았다 등이다. 계속해서, 마이크로티칭 전 과정에서의 소집단활동에 대해 각 각에서 4명이 한 조를 이루되 모든 조가 영어실력에서 비교적 고르게 분포되도록 조 편성을 함으로써 원만한 협동 활동이 될 수 있었다는 의견을 주기도 하였다. 한마디로 연구에 참여한 24명의 예비 중등 영어교사들은 한 학기 동안 경험한 마이크로티칭이 유익하고 필요한 수업활동이라는 인식을 하고 있는 것으로 설문조사 결과 분석에서 밝혀졌다. 본 연구는 이러한 연구결과를 바탕으로 몇 가지 제언을 함과 동시에 한계점을 지적한다.
Abstract
This paper aims at investigating the effectiveness of microteaching as one good tool of teacher education at the secondary school level. Microteaching has been known to be a powerful method to provide either pre-service or in-service teachers with opportunities to practice their teaching in a highly controlled instructional setting. There are twenty four students who participated in the study. After going through step-by-step procedures from pre-microteaching to post-microteaching activities under the instructor’s close guidance and supervision, they were given a questionnaire. The analysis of their responses to the questionnaire revealed the following results: After pre-conference with the instructor in the selection and planning of appropriate teaching points, the instructor’s comments on their lesson plan at the pre-microteaching stage were very helpful; teaching was a very good experience; discussion with the instructor, watching the recorded video, reading other groups’ evaluation sheets at the post-microteaching stage were helpful as well. Writing self-evaluations and making oral reports, however, did not seem to be as interesting as other activities. As to the small group work in the open-ended questions, they pointed out that small groups of four students with similar proficiency level were generally good as students were able to share ideas in the cooperative mood at every stage from pre-work to post-work. It was concluded that further in-depth study is needed in the future by including more participants and using a variety of measuring instruments.
