초록
This research investigates the conversational linguistic features reflected in the listening parts of the CSAT and pilot CSAT from 2009 to 2019 by comparing dialogue transcripts to native speakers’ characteristics through the use of a corpus analysis. Based on previous research, seven conversational linguistic features (noun phrase prefaces and tags, reporting verbs in the past progressive tense, particles, vagueness tags, modifying expressions, and discourse markers) are analyzed, and their frequency of occurrence, semantic approach, and examples are examined. The results show the underuse of each feature when compared with the native corpus, BNC. Consequently, there are relatively few similarities between the CSAT and natural conversational linguistic features. Thus, more conversational linguistic features should to be included on the CSAT for Korean students, who have fewer opportunities to be exposed to natural English on a daily basis. Guiding these students to study and listen to more real-life-based conversations might be more effective for their English education.
