초록

English language teaching and testing have traditionally focused on the description of written language, often to the neglect of the spoken form. Recently the development of spoken corpora made it possible to describe spoken grammatical features in detail. Moreover, findings from corpus and spoken grammar enable us to teach and to test more communicative language ability than ever before. The purpose of this study is to investigate CSAT‘s spoken features found from corpus studies and spoken grammar in order to find out how well they are reflected for authentic texts. By comparing CSAT transcribed data with British National Corpus, it is possible to investigate how CSAT's spoken expressions are deviated from native speaker norms. It was found that spoken features including particles, vagueness tags, modifying expressions, and discourse markers in CSAT were underused compared with BNC data. Consequently, the spoken features in CSAT had little resemblance to the natural spoken output. As neglecting to test these features may lead to a negative washback effect on teaching, it was argued that authentic spoken features found in corpus studies and spoken grammar should be embedded in CSAT to enrich authenticity.
