CEC(Council for Exceptional Children)
Abstract
This study systematically reviewed 21 domestic and international journal articles published between 2010 and 2024 on menstrual interventions for women with developmental disabilities. Research has increased rapidly over the past three years, mostly conducted in the U.S. and Türkiye, while domestic studies remain scarce. MMost interventions aimed to improve menstrual management skills or enhance related knowledge, attitudes, and psychological factors, targeting individuals with developmental disabilities or their caregivers. Behavioral interventions and visual menstrual hygiene education were the most common independent variables, with im proved management skills as the prim ary outcome. Evaluation using the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) quality indicators revealed some studies had methodological rigor (e.g., randomized controlled design, fidelity, effect size reporting), but overall lacked repeated fidelity checks, social validity, and long-term effect assessments. This study emphasizes that menstruation for women with developmental disabilities is a key area for social and policy support, and proposes directions for future research and practice.
