최근 10여 년간의 고려시기에 관한 연구는 사료의 정보화, 학제간 연구 등에 힘입어 연구 주제와 방법의 확장되며 양적 질적으로 크게 성장하였다. 본 글에서 는 최근 10여 년간의 연구 동향에서 나타나는 특징 두 가지에 대하여, 그것이 기왕의 연구성과와 어떠한 상관 관계 속에서 파생된 것인지를 살피고 향후 고려시기 연구방향을 모색해 보고자 하였다. 대외관계사 분야의 폭발적 성장은 연구 동향에서 나타나는 특징 가운데 하나이다. 一國적 관점을 탈피하여 동아시아적 관점에서 한국 중세사회를 조명하고자 하는 노력의 일환으로 고려시기 국제관계, 특히 몽골[원]과의 관계는 연구는 괄목할만한 성과를 축적하였다. 한편, 연구의 양적 질적 성장 가운데에도 거시적 관점에서의 문제의식을 공유하는 활발한 논쟁이 퇴조되었다. 해방 이후 20세기를 지나, 21세기 새로운 고려시대 역사상을 만들어야 하는 과제와 연구의 양적 평가가 강조되고 있는 오늘날 한국 역사학의 연구 현실이 반영된 결과는 아닐까 한다.
Abstract
Over the last decade, the status of research regarding Goryeo history has significantly advanced in both quality and quantity as research topics and methods have developed to include a database system of historical records as well as a new breadth of interdisciplinary research. This paper intends to discuss two major trends that have developed in the research conducted during these past ten years, to examine how those patterns relate to existing research, and to look forward to the future of Goryeo history research. One emergent pattern in research trends is the explosive growth of research regarding diplomatic history. Turning the study of Korean medieval society from a nationalistic historical focus to a more encompassing East Asian perspective contributed to more perceptive research into the international relations of the era, particularly regarding Mongol (Yuan) relations. Yet amidst the surging growth of research quantity and quality, the active debates regarding the macroscopic issues of the field have lost momentum. One can attribute these trends to the outcomes of the post-liberation 20th and 21st centuries being saddled with the task of organizing a new understanding of Goryeo history and the pressures of a research system that prioritized quantity of output, resulting in the current landscape of historical scholarship in Korea.
