당송팔가시선 편찬의 가치와 의의

본 논문은 1444년(세종 26) 안평대군 이용이 주관하여 편찬한 당송팔가시선의 문학적 가치와 의의를 밝히는 데 목적을 두고 있다. 당송팔가시선은 고려시대부터 당과 송의 문인들이 남긴 시들을 간편하게 모아 보고 싶은 요구에 따라 편찬되었다. 이전에는 이백, 두보, 소식 등과 같이 유명한 시인들의 개인문집을 중심으로 밖에 시를 읽을 수 있었다. 문집을 얻을 수 있더라도 전편의 시가 너무 많기 때문에 다양한 시를 모아 간편하게 감상하고 학습할 수 있는 선집을 원하였다. 당송팔가시선은 당과 송의 시인 각각 4명씩 여덟 명을 선정하고 있다. 이와 같이 당과 송을 대표하는 여덟 명의 시인을 선정하여 ‘당송팔가(唐宋八家)’라고 명명한 것에서부터 매우 중요한 의미를 가진다. 일반적으로 ‘당송팔대가’라는 명칭은 모곤의 당송팔대가문초로 인하여 알려지게 되었는데, 이보다 130여 년 전에 조선에서 이미 ‘당송팔가’를 선정하고, 시선을 편찬하였다는 점은 우리의 문학사에서 의미 있게 다루어야 할 문제이다. 당송팔가시선은 안평대군이 주관하여 편찬한 시선집이기 때문에 전체적으로 규모 있고 짜임새 있게 만들어졌다. 특히 안평대군의 서문을 비롯하여 집현전의 학사들이 중심이 되어 쓴 서문과 발문, 기문 등이 맨 앞에 편차되어 있어 이 시선집의 편찬 의도와 과정, 그리고 편찬된 시기까지 명확하게 알 수 있다는 점이 큰 의의이다. 앞으로 안평대군이 선정한 ‘팔가’의 시가 당과 송의 시를 대표할 수 있는지, 또 선발된 시의 문학적 가치, 안평대군의 선시안, 시선집 발간 이후 조선 문단에 끼친 영향 등에 대한 구체적인 연구가 시작되어야 할 것이다.
Abstract
This study aims to elucidate the literary value and significance of Dangsong- palgasiseon(唐宋八家詩選), compiled by Prince Anpyeong Yi Yong(李瑢) in 1444. Dangsongpalgasiseon was compiled in response to the demand for a simple collection of poems written by Tang and Song literati from the Goryeo Dynasty onward. Dangsongpalgasiseon selects eight poets, four each from the Tang and Song Dynasties. The very fact that eight poets representing the Tang and Song Dynasties were selected and named “Dangsongpalga(唐宋八家)” has a very significant meaning. In general, the name ‘Dangsongpalga’ became known through Mao Kun’s (茅坤) Dangsong paldaegamuncho(唐宋八大家文鈔), but the fact that Joseon had already selected ‘Dangsongpalga’ and compiled its poetry 130 years prior is an issue that should be dealt with meaningfully in our literary history. Dangsongpalgasiseon is a collection of poems compiled under the supervision of Prince Anpyeong, so it is well-organized and well-made overall. In particular, the preface by Prince Anpyeong, as well as the preface, postface, and notes written mainly by Jiphyunjeon [Jiphyunjeon] Scholars, are placed at the very front, which is of great significance in that it allows us to clearly understand the intention and process of compiling this anthology of poems, as well as the time of compilation.
