초록

경제 개혁 실시 이후 국제질서에 미치는 중국의 영향력은 지속적으로 증가해왔다. 하지만 개발도상국 국민이 중국의 부상을 어떻게 인식하는지에 대한 학문적연구는 아직 체계적으로 진행된 것이 없다. 본 연구는 중국에서 유학하는 아프리카학생들을 대상으로 실시된 설문조사를 바탕으로 이들이 ‘중국 특색의 세계화 전략’ 을 바라보는 시각과 원인을 조사했다. 본 논문에서 중국 특색의 세계화 전략은중국의 경제 성장을 일컫는 중국 모델과 서구 중심의 국제질서에서 중국의 적극적인 역할을 강조하는 중국 방안을 지칭한다. 중국 모델은 중국 특색의 경제발전방식을 개발도상국이 발전 대안으로 수용할 수 있는지를 둘러싸고 지속적인 논쟁을 불러일으키고 있다. 중국 방안은 서구의 지배적인 규범에 도전하는 중국의 외교전략으로 시진핑 주석이 2016년 공산당 창당 95주년 기념식에서 국제질서를 변화시키기 위한 중국의 적극적인 역할을 강조하면서 언급한 용어이다. 비대칭 구조와사회정체성 이론을 적용해 설문조사 결과를 분석한 결과 본 논문은 아프리카 학생들이 서구 발전 모델과 서구 질서보다는 중국 발전 모델과 중국 외교 전략에 더우호적인 입장을 지니고 있음을 발견했다.

Abstract

Since economic reforms started, China has greatly increased its influence in the world. However, there has been little research on how people in developing countries perceive China’s growth. This research is designed to answer the question by providing empirical evidence on how overseas African students in China perceive ‘globalism with Chinese characteristics’. The term implies two distinctive features of China’s challenge to dominant ideas in the path of development and international structure led by the West: China model and China solution. China model has raised consistent contentions on whether it is able to be an alternative development pattern for developing countries. China solution is a terminology that president Xi Jinping emphasized a more active role of China as a way to change international order during his address for celebrating the 95th anniversary of the foundation of the Chinese Communist Party. Employing asymmetry analytic framework and social identity theory, the paper finds out that African students show tendency to prefer Chinese domestic development model and diplomatic strategy to those of the West.
