「한네레의 죽음」에 투영된 작품 세계 탐구

방정환의 「한네레의 죽음」을 미즈타니 마사루, 오가와 미메이, 오사나이 가오루 등의 작품과의 비교 분석을 통해 「한네레의 죽음」에 투영된 작품 세계의 특징과 의미를 살펴보는 것을 목적으로 한다. ‘학대’, ‘죽음’, ‘자살’, ‘꿈’, ‘환영’, ‘환청’, ‘그리움’ 등의 키워드를 중심으로 심리학적 방법론을 적용하여 분석한 결과 다음과 같은 네 가지 결과를 알 수 있었다. 첫째 독자 공감력의 극대화이다. 방정환의 「한네레의 죽음」에는 ‘학대’ 묘사가 하웁트만의 원작이나 저본인 미즈타니 마사루의 작품에 비해 현저하게 두드러졌음을 알 수 있었다. 이를 통해 한네레가 ‘환청’에 이끌려 ‘죽음’을 선택할 수밖에 없는 상황에 설득력을 더하며 독자의 공감력을 극대화하고 있다. 둘째 아픔의 공유이다. 「한네레의 죽음」은 엄마에 대한 ‘그리움’에 더해 언니를 향한 ‘그리움’이 강조되었다. 언니는 한네레의 꿈속에 등장하여 자신 또한 ‘학대’와 서러움 속에서 ‘죽음’에 이르렀음을 밝히며 꿈속에서의 대화를 통해 서로의 아픔을 공유한다. 셋째는 모성성의 강화이다. ‘언니’는 나와 동일한 아픔을 공유한 존재로서의 언니, 어머니=언니로 등치되는 또 하나의 엄마로서의 언니의 역할이 강조되고, 결말에서의 엄마와 언니가 함께 하는 꿈속 나라로의 마무리를 통해 「한네레의 죽음」이 모성성이 강화된 작품임을 알 수 있었다. 마지막으로 동화적 상상력의 구현이다. ‘학대’라고 하는 아픔을 공유한 언니의 등장을 통해 한네레와 언니가 처한 지옥 같은 지금 여기 우리의 현실이 부각되며, 자장가가 함께하는 동심이 살아있는 꿈속 나라라고 하는 축복의 공간 대비가 극명히 드러난다. 이러한 장치는 종교색을 덜어내면서도 ‘어린이’를 상위로 둔 동화적 상상력을 투영한 결과물로 원작이 담고 있는 세계관을 동일하게 표상하고 있음을 알 수 있었다.
Abstract
As a work included in the 5th place out of 10 pieces of Jung Hwan Bang’s 『Gift of love』(1922), 「Hanneles’ Death」 is derived from its original work, German author Gerhart Hauptmann’s(1862-1946) play for children 「Hanneles Himmelfahrt」(1893). The purpose of this dissertation is to investigate the characteristics & meaning of work world projected in Jung Hwan Bang’s 「Hanneles’ Death」 mainly around key words like ‘abuse’, ‘death’, ‘suicide’, ‘dream’, ‘apparition’, ‘auditory hallucination’, ‘yearning’, etc., through comparative analysis with Jung Hwan Bang’s 「Hanneles’ Death」 (『Gift of love』, 1922), Mizutani Masaru(水谷勝)’s 「ハンネレの昇天(Hanneles’ Ascension)」(『世界童話寶玉集』, 1919), Ogawa Mimei (1882-1961, 小川未明)’s 「ハンネレの昇天 (Hanneles’s Ascension)」(『五年生の世界童話』, 1961), Osanai Kaoru(小山內薰)’s 「Hanneles’ Ascension」(『近代劇五曲』, 1913). Then, the 4 following results could be acquired. First, the maximization of readers’ sympathy. It is found that abuse was described much more remarkably in Jung Hwan Bang’s 「Hanneles’ Death」 than in Hauptmann’s original work or draft, Mizutani Masaru’s work. Then, the situation where Hanneles unavoidably chose death with auditory hallucination became more persuasive, maximizing readers’ sympathy. Second, sharing pains. 「Hanneles’ Death」 emphasized yearning for older sister in addition to that for mother. Appearing in Hanneles’ dream, older sister revealed that she also died in abuse and sorrow, sharing mutual pains through dialogue in the dream. Third, the enhancement of maternity. The role of older sister is emphasized as she shares same pains with me and she is another mother in juxtaposition, mother =older sister. In conclusion, she finished journey to dream land with mother & older sister and 「Hanneles’ Death」 enhances maternity. Finally, the embodiment of imagination of fairy tale. As older sister who shared pains, abuse appeared, our reality similar to hell where Hanneles and older sister stayed was highlighted. Then, the contrast of blessing space called dream land where innocence of childhood was alive with lullaby was apparently exposed. It is obvious that this device uniformly represents view of the world borne by original work as result which diminishes religious hue & projects imagination of fairy tale that provides children with priority.
