독도에 관한 주관성 연구: 경북지역 신중년을 중심으로

Abstract

This research, serving as a foundational study for Dokdo education, employed the Q methodology to investigate the perceptions and characteristics of Dokdo among 27 middle-aged individuals in the Gyeongbuk region. The study identified three perception types regarding Dokdo: 'Firm Determination to Protect Dokdo Territory,' 'Strong Response to Dokdo Issue,' and 'Strengthening Dokdo Security Education Type.' Type 1 recognizes Dokdo as an inherent territory that must be safeguarded, emphasizing the importance of the government stating a clear position and expressing a stronger will to defend the territory. Type 2 emphasizes the nationwide expansion of education, heightened awareness of territorial defense, a clear government stance, and a robust response to Japan's provocations. Type 3 advocates for a strong response to Japan's armed provocations but values mutual cooperation over conflict. Furthermore, it recognizes the importance of nationwide Dokdo education for a cooperative resolution. Building on these findings, the study proposes directions for Dokdo education in terms of maritime security and Dokdo sovereignty. The hope is that ongoing research, based on these results, will include the development and implementation of Dokdo education programs targeting young and middle-aged individuals, as well as the training of Dokdo education instructors.
