Abstract

This paper critically examines the structural issues of the local music ecosystem and the cultural bias toward the Seoul-centered music industry, proposing the launch of the music critique journal <Ji·Eum·Gil> as an alternative discourse. The concentration of the music industry in the capital region has led to psychological discouragement and economic disparities among local musicians, causing many to rely heavily on government grants rather than sustainable creative activities. A critical analysis of the local music scene is essential for fostering cultural diversity and establishing the unique identity of local music. <Ji·Eum·Gil> aims to document the realities of local musicians and their creative processes while advocating for local music to be recognized as an independent and valuable cultural phenomenon rather than a peripheral subculture. The journal will serve as a platform to support autonomous artistic expression, strengthen creative environments, and stimulate discussions within both the local community and the broader music industry. This study explores the challenges of the local music ecosystem from an academic and critical perspective, offering strategic directions for its sustainable growth and the reinforcement of its creative foundation.
