초록

This article summarizes the thoughts that I have grown while running a series of annual conferences for emerging music scholars, and contains my hope that those young scholars should take a step forward with firm and steady will. If they choose the path of a scholarly life, I propose them to grasp five basic concepts on the world of scholars and their activities. A scholar should be a member of one or more scholarly communities of musicology, and to communicate with their members by writing and presenting papers in their conferences and finally to publish them in accredited academic journals. Essential jobs of scholars are to research any previously unanswered academic questions to the world. Thus, I presented in this paper five basic concepts around ‘a scholar’s world’ as follows: scholar, scholars’ community, scholarly paper, academic conferences, and academic journals. Young scholars should actively run and participate around and equip with necessary skills over those five infras/tools. The paper further deals with helpful suggestions for coping with goals by presenting materials dealt previously either on related papers or websites.
