여학생에서 여자 체육교사로: 초임 여자 체육교사의 과거 체육수업 경험이 교직 입문에 미친 영향

초록

본 연구의 목적은 초임 여자 체육교사의 학창 시절 경험한 체육 수업 경험이 교직 입문기에 어떠한 영향을 주었는지를 탐색하는 데 있다. 이를 위하여 교직경력 5년 이하의 초임 여자 체육교사 5명을 유목적적으로 선정하여 심층면담을 실시하였다. 수집된 자료는 Nvivo 12를 이용하여 귀납적으로 범주화하였다. 연구결과 여학생들이 경험한 체육수업은 (a) 교사의 성 고정관념에 의한 차별, (b) 운동장에서 주목받던 체육 절대자, (c) 진면 또는 반면 여자 체육교사와의 만남으로 범주화되었다. 이러한 경험이 교직 입문기에 미친 영향은 (a) 체육 잘 하기의 허점, (b) 차별적 학습자에 대한 이해와 공감 증대, (c) ‘여자’ 체육교사에서 ‘체육교사’ 되어가기로 범주화되었다. 이를 바탕으로 여학생 체육수업 내실화 필요성, 교사교육에서 여자 체육교사들의 과거 체육경험에 대한 비판적 성찰의 필요성, 여자 체육교사의 전문적 성장을 지원할 수 있는 전문성 개발 프로그램의 필요성, 그리고 여자 체육교사들의 전문적 성장을 총체적인 관점에서 파악하는 후속 연구를 제언하였다.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to explore beginning female PE teachers’ past school PE experiences, and how they influenced teachers’ induction process as beginning PE teachers. Five female teachers were selected with less than 5-year teaching experience, based on their perceived level of sports skills and type of school they attended. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and were analyzed through Nvivo 12. The findings revealed that the participants’ past experiences were categorized into: (a) discrimination based on gender-stereotype, (b) outstanding performers on the playground, and (c) encounter with a role model or a negative role model. The impact of participants’ experience on induction stage of their career were categorized into (a) loophole of the PE elitism, (b) enhancing empathy toward alienated learners, and (c ) gradually becoming a PE teacher from a ‘female’ PE teacher. Based on these findings, it is suggested to provide quality PE experience for female students, professional development program to support female PE teachers’ professional growth, and reflective and critical approach to reflect upon the past PE experience.
