본고는 혼잣말의 개념과 위상, 그리고 유형의 문제를 시론적으로나마 다루었다. 혼 잣말은 기본적으로 내적과 외적인 혼잣말로 구분될 수 있고, 외적인 경우에는 단독적 장면에서의 사적인 말과 상관적 장면에서의 사회적인 말로 구분될 수 있다. 내적인 혼잣말은 주로 심리적 측면에서의 논의가 이루어져왔다. 일반적으로 상위인 지 측면에서의 조정과 통제, 그리고 정보 마련을 위한 소통 역할을 한다. 이런 경우에 준언어적 표현인 ‘쉼’과 연계되어 이러한 내적 혼잣말의 기능이 확인될 수 있다. 외적 혼잣말의 경우에는 화자의 자기활동에 수반되거나, 성찰, 동기유발, 체면유지, 감정조절 등 다양한 측면에서 작용하는 것으로 드러났다. 하지만 혼잣말은 일상 대화에서 혼잣말에 대한 자료를 수집하기 어려울 뿐 아니라, 기본적으로 혼잣말이 내적으로 발현되는 경우가 많기 때문에 연구에 어려움이 따른다. 이를 감안하여, 향후 언어 생태학에 보다 부합하는 말뭉치 자료의 수집이 이루어져야 할 것이고, 무엇보다 혼잣말의 심리적 현상에 대한 보다 깊이 있는 연구가 뒷받침되어야 할 것으로 판단된다.
Abstract
This paper dealt with the concept, status, and type of problem of private speech in an introductory review. Private speech can basically be divided into inner and outer speech, and in external cases, it can be divided into personal words in independent scenes and social words in correlative scenes. Internal private speech has been mainly psychological. It generally serves as a communication for coordination and control in terms of top-level recognition, and information preparation. In this case, the function of this inner private speech can be identified in conjunction with the quasi- verbal expression ‘pause’. In the case of external private speech, it has been found to be involved in the speaker's self-activity, or to act in various aspects such as reflection, motivation, maintaining face, and controlling emotions. However, not only is it difficult to collect data on talking to oneself in everyday conversations, but research is also difficult because private speech is often expressed internally. Taking this into account, it is believed that the collection of corpus data that is more compatible with language ecology in the future will have to be made, and above all, a more in-depth study of the psychological phenomena of private speech should be supported.
