죽음불안을 가진 아버지의 삶의 수용에 관한 내러티브 탐구

본 탐구는 탐구자가 뇌종양 판정으로 수술 후 회복을 겪고 있는 아버지의 삶을 탐구한 것이다. 가족 간 미술치료를 통해 탐구자와 아버지의 관계를 들여다보면서 남은 인생의 삶을 수용하는 가운데 미술치료가 주는 의미를 탐구하고자 하였다. 탐구기간은 총 16회기 미술치료를 진행하였으며 일주일에 한번씩, 1회기는 60분에서 1시간30분으로 유연성 있게 진행하였다. 본 탐구는 아버지의 체험을 ‘있는 그대로’ 봄으로써 실존적이고 질적인 변화에 주목하고자 내러티브 탐구를 실시하였다. 그 결과 아버지의 미술치료 활동 과정에서 경험한 내용은 ‘나는 내 이름 하나 밖에 없었다’, ‘나에게 돌아갈 집이 생겼구나’, ‘죽음은 어디든 존재한다’, ‘훨훨 자유로운 갈매기가 되어’라는 4개의 의미를 생성하였다. 미술치료는 아버지에게 삶을 회상하면서 즐거움과 유년시절과 접촉하면서 새로운 경험을 하였으며 죽음 또한 자신의 삶임을 수용하였다. 죽음불안은 실존적인 의미로 탐색되며 유한적인 삶을 살아가면서 죽음은 인간 각자의 고유의 본래성을 되찾기 위한 자원이라는 의미를 찾게 되었다.
Abstract
In this study, I explored the life of my father who was recovering after brain tumor surgery. I assessed into the relationship my father and me I and my father through inter-family art therapy and tried to explore the meaning of arttherapy in accepting my father's limited remaining life. The research period was 16 sessions of art therapy, and sessions ranged between 60 and 90 minutes per session once a week. I conducted narrative research observe existential and qualitative changes by watching my father's experience “as is”. As a result, my father's experience in art therapy revealed four main themes: “I have only one name,” “I have a house to return to,” “death is everywhere,” and “become a free sea gull”. In addition, My father recalled his life through art therapy, and he had a new experience by getting in touch with pleasure and his childhood; and he accepted death as the end of his own life. I found that death anxiety was my primary emotion. Death anxiety was therefore explored via existential meaning, and through a finite life, death has found meaning: it is a resource to regain each person's core originality.
