Abstract
The aim of this study was to explore what cancer survivor experience in the process of art therapy and what the meaning and value of the experience are. The participant was a malignant lymphoma survivor. A total of 17 sessions of art therapy were performed for 50 minutes to 1 hour and 30 minutes per session, 1 or 2 times a week from November, 2017 to October, 2018. The research data consisted of the verbatim transcripts of each session, pictures, the researcher's journals, and the data of the interviews with the mother of participant. Data analysis was based on the narrative inquiry methodology proposed by Clandinin and Connelly(2000/2007). After the narrative coding of the research data was conducted according to the narrative inquire procedures, the experience stories of participant were described by reconstructing their life stories and the meanings of life experiences were also derived. The stories of the art therapy experiences of participant were described as the 'Peter Pan's mixed feelings of sadness', 'social perceptions that caused suffering', 'at the boundary between life and death', and 'into the relationship with reality.' In this study, three meanings of the experience of the participant was derived. First, the participant was faced with the difficult of regression and psycho-social adjustment due to changes in her environment. Second, She was lived a difficult life with anxiety of recurrence and fear of death. Third, She was transformed into active subjects through creative art therapy.
