Abstract
This study aims to identify the factors affecting the collaboration between police officers and counselors who work together with sexual-assault victims. Using data collected from 114 police officers and 109 counselors, this study compared the differences in collaboration and the factors affecting collaboration between police officers and counselors. Analysis showed that the extent of collaboration between police officers and counselors was the highest while there was no difference in the level of collaboration. However, it was revealed that there were significant differences in levels of doubt and prejudice, ability to provide available service information, respect for other professionals, and communication between police officers and counselors. Police officers’ levels of doubt and prejudice were higher than those of counselors, whose ability to provide available service information, respect for other professionals, and communication were higher than those of police officers. It was also found that respect for other professionals as well as communication were strong predictors of collaboration for police officers and counselors. For police officers, levels of doubt, ability to provide available service information, and explanation of criminal justice procedures were found to be the significant factors affecting collaboration.
