언론에 투영된 섬 인식지형에 대한 비판적 고찰－신안군 범죄보도 사례를 중심으로－

본 연구는 언론의 범죄보도 속에 드러난 섬의 모습을 살펴보고 이러한 언론 보도가 섬에대한 혐오와 차별을 유발하는 배양원이 되고 있다는 데 주목하고 있다. 이를 위해 뉴스검색프로그램인 빅카인즈와 포털뉴스 사이트인 네이버를 이용해 섬과 관련된 대표적인 범죄보도를분석했다. 빅카인즈는 서울지역 신문과 방송, 지역지 등 모두 54개 언론사의 기사 검색을 제공하고 있다. 포털뉴스 네이버에서는 이들 언론사를 포함해 인터넷 신문 등이 포함돼 있어 더다양하고 광범위한 기사 자료를 검색할 수 있다. 분석대상 범죄보도는 2014년 ‘염전노예’ 사건과 2016년 ‘여교사 성폭행’ 사건이다. 두 사건은 모두 국내에서 섬이 가장 많은 지자체인신안군에서 발생했다. 언론이 두 사건을 보도하면서 ‘섬’을 어떤 식으로 재현하고 있는지가 주요 분석대상이다. 범죄보도 연구와 관련해서 국내 논문들은 남성과 여성의 젠더문제, 외국인이주 노동자 등의 차별문제, 여성 피해자의 2차 피해문제와 구제방안 등이 주를 이루고 있다. 본 논문에서는 섬 지역에서 발생한 범죄를 보도하는 언론의 보도내용이 특정지역을 차별하고혐오하는 자양분이 되고 있는지 여부를 분석하는 작업이라는 점에서 기존 연구와 차별성을 갖는다고 하겠다.
Abstract
This study examines the appearance of the islands revealed in the media's crime reports, and pays attention to the fact that these media reports are becoming a culture source that induces hatred and discrimination against the islands. To this end, we analyzed representative crime reports related to the island using Big Kinds, a news search program, and Naver, a portal news site. Big KInds provides search for articles from 54 media outlets, including newspapers, broadcasts, and local newspapers in Seoul. Portal News Naver includes Internet newspapers, including these media companies, so you can search for a wider variety of articles. The crime reports to be analyzed are the “Saltern Slave” case in 2014 and the “Female teacher sexual assault” case in 2016. Both incidents occurred in Shinan-gun, a basic municipality with the largest number of islands in Korea. The main object of analysis is how the media reproduces the ‘island’ while reporting the two incidents. Regarding crime reporting research, domestic papers mainly focus on gender issues of men and women, discrimination issues of foreign migrant workers, secondary damage issues of female victims, and remedies. In this paper, it is different from previous studies in that it is a work to analyze whether the content of the media reports on crimes in the island area is a nutrient that discriminates against and hates a specific area.
