전국일간지 보도에 나타난 혐오 담론과 쟁점화

연구 목적: 이 연구는 언론보도에 나타난 혐오 담론을 분석하고 관련 쟁점의 특성과 변화 양상을 파악하는 데 목적이 있다. 연구 방법: 2010년부터 2022년에 이르는 기간 동안 국내 10개의 전국일간지(경향신문, 국민일보, 동아일보, 문화일보, 서울신문, 세계일보, 조선일보, 중앙일보, 한겨레, 한국일보)에서 보도한 혐오 담론을 토픽모델링 방법을 활용해서 분석한다. 연구 내용: 분석 결과, 언론이 보도한 혐오 담론은 세 가지 특성을 나타낸다. 첫째, 여성에 대한 혐오와 차별이 주요 주제로 다뤄지고 있으나, 연도별 사건 중심으로 주제가 변화한다. 둘째, 혐오 문제를 논란으로 보도하는 뉴스 틀짓기의 특성이 우세하다. 셋째, 자극적인 사건에 초점을 두는 경향이 강화되고 있다. 결론 및 제언: 이 연구는 혐오에 대한 언론보도가 부정적 담론을 형성하고 있기에 사회 분열을 초래하는 쟁점화 과정으로 전개될 가능성을 우려한다. 앞으로 우리 언론이 공적 담론 형성의 주역으로서 그 책임과 소명을 위해 노력해 주기 바란다.
Abstract
This study aims to examine the hate discourse of national daily newspapers and to explore the characteristics and changes of related issues. During the period from 2010 to 2022, hate discourse reported by 10 national daily newspapers is analyzed using topic modeling. From the results, hate discourse reported by the newspapers shows three properties. First, hatred and discrimination against women are being treated as major topics, but the topic changes around events by year. Second, the news frame that report hate issues as controversy prevails. Third, the tendency to focus on provocative events is strengthening. This study is concerned about the possibility of developing into an issue-making process that causes social conflict and division because media reports on hate form negative discourses. Hope that news media will make efforts for its responsibility and calling as the main player in the formation of public discourse.
