초록
Historically, Dokdo is a Korean territory. However, Japan has been repeatedly claim the islet. Japan cites the texts "EUNJUSICHEONGHABGI(隠州視聴合記)" and "GEAJEOUNGYEOGYROJEOUNGZENDO(改正日本輿地路程全圖) as evidence for its territorial claim. In fact, both of these ancient texts are proof that it is actually a Korean territory. Originally in "EUNJUSICHEONGHABGI(隠州視聴合記)", the northwestern border of Japan is called Oki Island. In "EUNJUSICHEONGHABGI(隠州視聴合記)", however, Japan insists that the northwestern border of Japan is Ulleung Island. Also, they argue that those texts provide evidence that Ulleungdo and Dokdo were Japanese territories. In fact, both scripts suggest that Ulleung Island and Dokdo belong to Korea. Because, in "GEAJEOUNGYEOGYROJEOUNGZENDO(改正日本與地路程全圖), Japanese territory is painted with colors and longitudinal lines, while Ulleungdo and Dokdo are not colored. There are two different maps in "GEAJEOUNGYEOGYROJEOUNGZENDO(改正日本與地路程全圖). The map made in 1779 is authentic. The map presented by Japan in 1846 is a replica. While the original map has evidence of Korean sovereignty over the islands, the replica has no such evidence. Therefore, Japan's territorial claims lose historical foundation with these texts.
