호주의 다문화 교육 전개과정과 그 성격에 관한 연구

우리 사회가 급속도로 다인종·다문화 사회로 진입하고 있다. 따라서 이에 대한 다방면의 논의와 연구, 그리고 구체적인 정책과 제도 개발이 필요하다. 다인종·다문화 사회에 현명하게 대처하기 위해서는, 이미 이러한 사회로 진입한 국가들(본 연구에서는 호주)의 사례를 살펴보는 것이 우리에게 많은 시사를 줄 것이다. 본 연구에서는 호주의 다문화 교육 전개에서 드러나는 특성을 파악하기 위하여, 다문화 교육의 전개 이전 시기, 다문화 교육 전성기, 다문화 교육 쇠퇴기, 위협받는 다문화 교육 시기로 구분하여 살펴 보았다. 이젠 우리나라도 단일민족, 이질적인 문화에 대한 폐쇄성, 다른 인종에 대한 배타적인 태도에서 우리의 주류 문화에 대한 동화나 통합을 주장하기 보다는 다문화 교육을 통하여 지구화 시대에 걸맞는 지구촌 시민으로서의 공동체 의식을 함양하고, 인종·성·종교·문화적 차별이나 편견을 타파하는 노력이 뒤따라야 하겠다.
Abstract
Our society is rapidly changed to the multicultural society. So it is necessary to study and research on this society in various field. To prepare for the multicultural society in Korea, it is helpful to survey historical development and characteristics of Australia which is known to us as the multicultural society. In study, we divided historical development of multicultural education in Australia into 4 periods as follows; pre-multicurltural education period, multicultural education?s best period, multicultural education?s declining period, multicultural education?s threatened period. From this study, we have suggestions that it is essential to exert all possible efforts to eliminate difference and prejudice of race, sex, culture, religion in our society.
