Abstract

This thesis is to understanding of ‘the Theology of Sympathy’of Catherine Booth who is well known as co-founder with her husband General William Booth of the salvation army. Also, she is the Mother of the army. This has connection with a soteriology inecofeministic perspectives. She was also a revivalist, pioneer of women's rights and social reformer in her life time. First of all, the governing theme of her soteriology was the restoration of women and men in God's image and likeness of Godin Christ through learning(學) especially Bible to receive atonement of Jesus Christ, Greater Sympathy. That means a self-cultivationof her in order to build an ‘one woman’ as likeness of God. This study reveals the her passion; and at the heart of her soteriology underlines the integral relationship among the self, family, society, and the world in a life giving aspects each other as a community,as a organic interrelationship evermore expanding ecofeministic perspectives of her thoughts. Through her three settled views that were a ‘female ministry’ through ‘the Blood of Jesus’ as ‘atonement’ to bring the sympathyof ‘the self’, a ‘sacramental living’ through ‘the Living Fire’ as‘the giver of life’ to bring the sympathy for ‘the others’ and ‘tolove creation’ through symbolically ‘the One Church’ to bring the community of the salvation within the sympathy of ‘us’, this paperemphasizes on what is real salvation, what is real restoration, whatis real love, how can we embrace every creatures with her sympathyin relation with ‘equality’, ‘altruism’ and ‘relationship’. Because the sympathy as ‘empathic suffering’ which means‘feeling in’ & ‘feeling with’ to bring practice for every sufferingcreatures. After that, with sympathy of Catherine Booth they embracethe self(身, family(家), state(國), even everything and every creatures(萬事萬物) through practising ‘sacred- profane system’ like a‘sacramental living’ with ‘the priesthood of all believers’ in the ecofeministic context. They will be sanctified whole things tounite public and private affairs with a spirituality of the Army's Mother as a sympathetic spirituality of Catherine Booth for ‘giving life’(生物) in Gaia, especially among women of Korea churches if they start to really build up ‘their selves’ as ‘God's Image’.
