고등학교상담자의 상실상담 경험에 대한 합의적 질적 연구

본 연구는 고등학교에서의 상실상담 경험을 살펴보기 위해 고등학교에 재직하고 있는 학교상담자 11명을 대상으로 심층 면담하여 합의적 질적 분석방법(CQR)으로 분석하였다. 고등학교상담자는 학생들의 상실경험 상담에 개입하면서 어떤 어려움을 경험하는지, 그 어려움은 어떻게 극복하는지, 상실 상담 과정에서 학교상담자가 받는 영향과 유의할 점 등에 대해 알아보았다. 학교상담자들은 상실상담에서의 어려움을 학부모, 교사, 학생의 상실 상담의 필요성에 대한 이해 부족, 상담자가 경험하지 못한 상실 경험에 대한 이해 및 공감의 어려움, 상담자 역할 내에서의 어려움 등을 꼽았다. 이러한 어려움에 대해서는 가까운 학교상담자에게 자문을 구하거나 도움 방법을 찾는 등 적극적으로 도움을 요청했으며, 전문성 강화를 위해 연수 및 교육에 참가함으로써 대처했다. 상실 상담과정에서 학교상담자가 받는 심리적 영향은 부정적인 정서와 사고 등의 부정적 반응, 상담자 소진 등이 포함되었다. 이에 대한 대처로는 상담과 생활의 경계를 유지하고 상담 및 수퍼비젼을 받는 자기 돌봄을 위한 활동, 사회적 지지를 받거나 상담과정에서 힘을 받았다는 내용이 포함되었다. 본 연구를 통해 고등학교상담자의 상실상담 경험에 대해 보다 깊이 있게 이해할 수 있었으며, 이 내용을 바탕으로 앞으로 학교에서의 상실 상담에서 고려할 점에 대해 제안했다. 그리고 본 연구의 함의와 연구의 한계점 및 추후 연구에 대해서도 논의하였다.
Abstract
This study was a consensual qualitative analysis of the interview with 11 High school counselors regarding the experience of loss counseling. The study examined the difficulties in loss counseling among school counselors, how they overcome the difficulties, the influences on the counselors, and the aspects to be cautious of. For difficulties in loss counseling, school counselors mentioned lack of understanding on loss counseling among parent/care-givers, other teachers, and students, difficulties in understanding and empathizing loss experience among school counselors themselves, and difficulties in finding a role as a counselor. Counselors actively tackled it by asking for supervision and help from other school counselors and participating in training and education to strengthen their professionalism. Psychological influences on school counselors in loss counseling included negative emotions and thoughts, and burn out. Counselors’ coping methods for that problem were self-management in keeping their boundaries of counseling and life, self-care such as counseling and supervision, social support, and psychological support through counseling sessions. This study shed light on loss counseling among school counselors in depth, and proposed few considerations in loss counseling at school based on the results. Also, implications and limitations of this study and the suggestions for further research were discussed.
