Abstract

This paper aims to examine the features of the Trump administration’s trade and FTA policy and understand its implications. The Trump administration has sought to depoliticize its trade and FTA policies internationally, separating them from geopolitical and security advantages. On the other hand, it has used the trade and FTA policy as a useful means to strengthen its domestic support and political coalition. It is argued in this paper that the Trump administration’s trade and FTA policies would lead to the weakening of the American leadership in the process of building the economic order in Asia and the World.
