유학 고전의 분석적 읽기 수업 방법 제안- 성인 대상 『대학』, 『중용』 읽기 수업 사례를 바탕으로

이 논문은 50대 중반부터 80세 초반의 중장년을 위한 『대학』과 『중용』강의 경험을 바탕으로 대학의 교양교육에서 유학 고전 교수법을 모색하기 위한 것이다. 현재 대학 교양교육에서 고전 읽기 강의는 문학 작품 비중이 높고 비문학 분야에서는 서양 고전의 비중이 높다. 이렇게 고전 읽기 강좌에서 동양 고전의 비중이 낮은 것은 아마도 학생의 관심 부족이 큰 이유를 차지할 것이다. 학생의 관심 부족은 교수 방법에도 원인이 있을 것이다. 유학의 고전은 진리의 항존성을 강조하는 사상으로 인식되고 있어 비판적 사고가 개입할 여지가 없다고 생각하지만, 실제로는 시대에 따라 끊임없이 재해석되어 왔다. 한나라 정현과 송나라 주희의 주해 차이가 대표적 사례이다. 이러한 재해석 과정을 비교해 보는 것만으로도 유학 경전은 다층적 텍스트라는 것을 발견하게 된다. 이를 통해 대학의 교양 교육이 추구하는 질문하는 힘과 비판적 사고력, 문제 해결력을 기를 수 있을 것이다.
Abstract
This paper aims to explore teaching methods for Confucian classics in liberal arts education at universities based on the experience of teaching the Great Learning and the Doctrine of the Mean for middle-aged and elderly people in their mid-50s to early 80s. Currently, classical reading lectures in liberal arts education at universities have a high proportion of literary works, while Western classics have a high proportion in non-literary fields. The lack of interest in Eastern classics in classical reading lectures is probably largely due to the lack of interest on the part of students. The lack of interest on the part of students may also be due to teaching methods. Confucian classics are recognized as ideologies that emphasize the permanence of truth, so it is thought that there is little room for critical thinking, but in reality, they have been constantly reinterpreted over time. The differences in commentaries between Zheng Xian of the Han Dynasty and Zhu Xi of the Song Dynasty are representative examples. Just by comparing these reinterpretation processes, we can discover that Confucian classics are multilayered texts. Through this, we can cultivate the questioning power, critical thinking ability, and problem-solving ability that liberal arts education at universities pursues.
