이 논문에서는 구조 의미 분석의 방법론에 따라 대상 이동 동사의 의미를 분석하고, 그것을 토대로 대상 이동 동사의 낱말밭을 탐구하였다. 각 동사들은 의미의 초점이 출발점, 이동 과정, 도달점 중 어디에 있는지, 도달 양상이 어떠한지, 이동의 결과로 어떤 상태에 있게 되는지, 이동 양상이 어떠한지, 도달점과 이동 대상의 의미 특성이 어떠한지에 따라 다양하게 분절되고 있었다. 이 과정을 통해 한국어의 대상 이동 영역의 의미 분절 양상에서 다음과 같은 특징을 발견할 수 있었다. 먼저, 유사한 동작이라도 도달점과 이동 대상의 의미 특성에 따라 단어들을 다양하게 구별하고 있다. 예를 들어 주체와 도달점의 상하 관계를 반영하는 어휘가 구별되어 있고, 대상의 도달점이 갖는 성격(운송 수단 여부, 유정물 여부)에 따라 어휘가 구별되어 있다. 또한 단일어 이동 동사에 경로나 방법의 의미가 포합되어 있는 경우는 드물고, 경로나 방법을 나타내는 어근과 이동을 나타내는 어근이 결합하여 하나의 이동 사건을 표현하는 경우가 대부분이다. 이에 더해, 경로나 방법 외에 이동에 결과 상태 의미가 포합되는 유형이 다양하게 나타난다. 마지막으로, 본래 의미가 유사하여 의미 자질이 거의 동일하다고 볼 수 있는 어휘들이 서로 다른 맥락에서 사용되어 온 결과로 어휘의 의미 자질까지 구별되는 양상을 보이는 경우가 있다.
Abstract
This paper aims to analyze the meanings of korean theme-movement verbs in terms of the structural semantic analysis, and explore the wordfield of these verbs. The verbs could be divided into several types according to the semantic focus(the departure point, the movement itself or the arrival point), the arrival aspect, the result state or aspect of the movement, the arrival point's semantic characteristic or the theme of the movement that the verb exhibits. As theme-movement verbs are divided according such criteria, there emerge several characteristics of meaning articulations in the theme- movement domain. First, the verbs are divided variously according to the semantic characteristic of the arrival point or according to the theme of the movement, though the verbs stand for similar meanings in terms of movement. For example, there are verbs which reflect the honorific relationship between the subject and the arrival point; and some verbs are divided according to the characteristic of the arrival point(e.g. [±vehicle], [±animate]). And simple words rarely incorporate any meaning of paths or manners - mainly a root whose meaning includes a path or a manner is fused with a root whose meaning includes a movement. Furthermore, many verbs incorporate a result state meaning of a movement besides a path or a manner. Lastly, there exist separations of same kinds of verbs though the original meanings of them were very similar. The separations are due to differences of the contexts. Each of the verbs concerned with such separations had been used in different contexts mostly, and each context affected and changed the verb's meaning.
